What to Expect in the Stock Market This Week: Key Influencers and Earnings Reports
Market Influencers This Week
New Delhi: Analysts predict that this week’s market dynamics will be significantly influenced by the ongoing conflict in West Asia, fluctuations in crude oil prices, and the upcoming interest rate decision from the US Federal Reserve.
Quarterly earnings reports are also expected to shape market sentiment, they noted.
Ajit Mishra, Senior Vice President of Research at Religare Broking Ltd, stated, “The situation regarding the US-Iran conflict, shipping activities in the Strait of Hormuz, and changes in crude oil prices will be crucial in determining global risk sentiment. Furthermore, investors will be keenly observing the Federal Reserve's policy meeting, where insights on interest rates and inflation will be vital for the global markets.”
On the local front, market participants will keep an eye on the Industrial Production (IIP) data for June, he added.
This week, several major companies are set to announce their earnings, including Coal India, BEL, Larsen & Toubro, Hindustan Unilever, Adani Enterprises, Asian Paints, Adani Ports, Bajaj Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki, ITC, and Sun Pharma, according to Pravesh Gour, Senior Technical Analyst at Swastika Investmart Ltd.
Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, an online trading and wealth tech firm, remarked, “Investor focus will likely remain on developments in the Middle East, particularly the escalating tensions between the US and Iran, which are influencing global market sentiment. The recent spike in crude oil prices has reignited worries about inflation, economic growth, and monetary policy outlook, leading investors to adopt a more cautious, risk-averse approach.”
The Federal Reserve's policy meeting is anticipated to be the key macroeconomic event of the week. While the consensus among market participants is that interest rates will remain steady, the recent rise in energy prices has led some to question whether inflation risks might persist longer than expected.
Ponmudi further added, “The Federal Reserve's evaluation of the inflation outlook, economic growth, and the anticipated path of monetary policy in the upcoming quarters will be more significant than the rate decision itself.”
Last week, the BSE benchmark Sensex dropped by 2,091.68 points, or 2.67%, while the NSE Nifty fell by 566.85 points, or 2.32%.
