What to Expect in the Stock Market This Week: Key Factors to Watch
Market Influences This Week
New Delhi: Analysts indicate that stock market trading this week will be significantly influenced by events in the Strait of Hormuz, the ongoing US-Iran tensions, and fluctuations in crude oil prices.
With the earnings season now concluded, market participants will also keep a close eye on the activities of foreign investors.
Ajit Mishra, Senior Vice President of Research at Religare Broking Ltd, noted, "The situation in the Strait of Hormuz and Brent crude's price trajectory will be crucial for market movements in the short term. As we move into a week with limited data, investors are expected to concentrate on global monetary policy trends, crude oil pricing, and geopolitical issues."
Globally, the minutes from the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will be scrutinized for insights into the Federal Reserve's future policy direction. Any hints of a more aggressive approach could impact capital flows into emerging markets and heighten volatility in Indian stocks.
Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, an online trading and wealth management firm, stated, "Investor focus will remain on developments in the Strait of Hormuz and the broader US-Iran situation. Additionally, the release of the FOMC's July meeting minutes on August 19 will attract attention."
In addition to global factors, foreign institutional investment trends will be closely monitored.
Last week, the BSE Sensex fell by 489.92 points, or 0.62%, while the NSE Nifty dropped by 204.65 points, or 0.83%.
The Indian equity markets concluded the week on a downward trend, breaking a two-week winning streak due to rising crude oil prices and renewed geopolitical concerns, according to Ponmudi.
Pabitro Mukherjee, Deputy Vice President of Research at Bajaj Broking, emphasized that investors will be vigilant regarding crude oil price shifts and the ongoing US-Iran geopolitical dynamics.
Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Investments Limited, added that investors will be monitoring crude oil prices, geopolitical developments, FOMC minutes, and Chinese economic indicators for insights into global growth and the Fed's policy stance.
