What to Expect from Upcoming US-India Trade Talks Next Month?
Upcoming Trade Discussions Between India and the US
New Delhi: According to Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, a delegation from the US is anticipated to arrive in India next month for discussions on trade, although specific dates have yet to be confirmed.
Earlier this April, Indian representatives traveled to Washington, DC, for face-to-face meetings with their American counterparts to finalize the interim agreement's specifics and advance negotiations on the broader Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).
Agrawal mentioned to reporters, "We expect the US team to visit soon... not this month, but possibly next month."
He emphasized that India is actively working with the US on the trade deal, which will be signed at a suitable moment.
Additionally, he noted that India is involved in discussions concerning Section 301 investigations with the US.
On February 7, both nations released a joint statement that established a framework for an interim trade agreement focused on reciprocal and mutually advantageous trade.
This framework reiterated the commitment of both countries to continue negotiations on the broader India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement.
In the last fiscal year, India's exports to the US saw a slight increase of 0.92%, totaling USD 87.3 billion, while imports surged by 15.95% to USD 52.9 billion. Consequently, the trade surplus decreased from USD 40.89 billion to USD 34.4 billion.
