What to Expect from the Upcoming US Trade Team Visit to India?
US Trade Delegation Set to Visit India
New Delhi: A trade delegation from the United States is anticipated to arrive in India next week to advance the ongoing trade discussions between the two nations, as confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that prior discussions took place in April when an Indian trade team visited the US, and the upcoming visit will continue these negotiations.
Jaiswal stated, "We had a trade team that visited the United States in April. Now, we are expecting a team from the United States to visit India next week to further these negotiations."
He emphasized that the interactions between both parties have been characterized as "positive and constructive," with more information to be disclosed later.
While the MEA did not elaborate on the specific agenda for the upcoming talks, it indicated that trade negotiations are moving forward in a constructive manner.
In response to a question regarding a viral video purportedly depicting racism against Indians in the US, Jaiswal mentioned he had not seen the video but reiterated India's stance on such matters.
"I have not seen the post. However, racism of any kind, anywhere, is unacceptable," he remarked.
Additionally, US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, addressed an event in New Delhi, stating that no partnership is better positioned than that of India and the US to capitalize on new opportunities, particularly in technology, and described the India-US relationship as a defining partnership of the 21st century.
Earlier in May, the government announced that the US trade team, led by the chief negotiator, would visit India from June 1–4 to finalize details of an interim agreement and advance negotiations under a broader bilateral trade agreement, which includes areas such as market access, non-tariff measures, customs and trade facilitation, investment promotion, and economic security alignment.
