Vijaypat Singhania, the former chairman of the Raymond Group, passed away on Saturday evening in Mumbai, as confirmed by his family. He was 87 years old. His son, Gautam Singhania, who currently serves as the chairman and managing director of the group, shared the news on the social media platform 'X'. According to a spokesperson for the Raymond Group, Vijaypat died "peacefully," and his last rites are scheduled for Sunday.
A distinguished recipient of the Padma Bhushan award, Vijaypat was also an enthusiastic aviator, famously holding a world record for achieving the highest altitude in a hot air balloon. He led the Raymond Group as chairman for 20 years until 2000. After passing the leadership to Gautam, he transferred his entire 37% stake in the company to his son. Although Vijaypat and Gautam faced legal disputes in the past, they eventually resolved their differences.
