Prem Raina's Ambitious Plans for Tattapani

Prem Raina, the newly elected pradhan of Tattapani Gram Panchayat in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, is on a mission to enhance local governance by leveraging his extensive tourism experience and international exposure.

His goal is to elevate Tattapani into a prominent tourist hotspot, focusing on infrastructure improvements, enhanced visitor amenities, and increased economic prospects for the local populace.

Raina's entrepreneurial journey began in 1992 with a modest soft-drink vending business along the Sutlej River. His passion for tourism led him to pursue formal training in food and beverages at the Institute of Hotel Management in Kufri, as well as adventure tourism through the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Department.

His career took him to Italy, where he founded an Ayurvedic Panchakarma and beauty center near Milan. After returning to Tattapani, he expanded his tourism ventures, including hospitality services and adventure activities like rafting.

The establishment of the Kol Dam reservoir significantly altered the local landscape, impacting businesses along the Sutlej. Raina demonstrated resilience by relocating his enterprise to adapt to these changes.

Transitioning from business to grassroots politics, Raina aims to attract more administrative focus on Tattapani's developmental and tourism needs.

Nestled along the Sutlej, Tattapani is famous for its natural hot springs, religious significance, and picturesque scenery. The area has the potential to develop wellness, religious, leisure, and adventure tourism, but this requires strategic planning, enhanced public facilities, improved connectivity, and sustainable resource management.

On October 23, 2026, a significant development occurred when Minister Jagat Singh Negi inspected potential sites for a modern hot-water bathing facility and a community center in Tattapani. The Public Works Department was tasked with preparing designs and cost estimates for the first phase within a month, while the community center is slated for the second phase.

The inspection also addressed plans for footpath construction, repairs to the police check post, and issues related to silt buildup in the Kol Dam reservoir. Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan and other officials participated in the discussions, with Raina present as the panchayat pradhan.

If executed promptly and with effective inter-departmental coordination, these proposed facilities could significantly enhance Tattapani's tourism appeal.

Raina envisions Tattapani as a recognized tourism hub that fosters employment, bolsters local businesses, and creates opportunities for the youth. His background in hospitality and tourism provides a solid foundation for this vision.

The challenge lies in converting this ambition into tangible outcomes through transparent governance, community involvement, and sustainable development. The future of Tattapani hinges not only on attracting more visitors but also on ensuring that tourism yields enduring economic benefits for the local community.
