Swiggy Increases Platform Fee Following Zomato's Lead
Swiggy Raises Fees for Food Delivery
In a recent update, Swiggy has announced a 17% increase in its platform fee, raising it from Rs 14.99 to Rs 17.58 per order. This adjustment comes shortly after Zomato implemented a similar fee hike.
The new charges are reflected in the Swiggy app, where the company has communicated that this increase is necessary for the operation and maintenance of its platform.
This fee adjustment follows Zomato's decision to raise its platform fee by approximately 19% last week, which added an extra Rs 2 per order.
With this latest change, both Swiggy and Zomato now charge nearly identical fees of around Rs 17.58 per order, inclusive of GST.
Currently, Zomato's pre-GST platform fee is Rs 14.90 per order, an increase from Rs 12.50. The company had initially set a platform fee of Rs 2 per order in August 2023, which has been gradually raised in key markets.
These recent fee hikes are attributed to the rising costs of inputs and operations within the food delivery sector, including increased energy prices for LPG and crude oil, which have impacted both restaurants and delivery partners.
Zomato last adjusted its platform fee in September 2025, having previously raised it from Rs 6 to Rs 10 during the festive season in February. The latest adjustments by both companies reflect a trend of platforms adjusting their pricing strategies to maintain profit margins in a competitive and costly market.
On the stock market, Swiggy's shares were trading at Rs 273.40, showing a slight increase of 0.33% on the BSE. However, the stock has seen a decline of over 10% in the past month, nearly 40% over the last six months, and about 20% year-on-year.
In contrast, shares of Eternal, Zomato's parent company, experienced a rise of around 2% following the announcement of the fee increase.
