New Delhi, April 16: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his optimism regarding the evolving partnership between India and Austria, emphasizing a shift towards a more innovation-driven and future-oriented collaboration.
This assertion followed his meeting with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker, where they explored avenues to enhance cooperation in sectors such as innovation, infrastructure, and sustainability.
PM Modi highlighted the mutual commitment of both countries to invigorate trade and investment relations.
"I had very fruitful discussions with Chancellor Stocker of Austria. We are pleased that he chose India as his first destination outside Europe after taking office, which underscores his dedication to strengthening India-Austria ties. Notably, this marks the first visit by an Austrian Chancellor in 40 years. His visit coincides with the historic India-EU Free Trade Agreement, heralding a new era in India-EU relations," PM Modi shared on X.
"Our discussions today focused on enhancing collaboration in innovation, infrastructure, and sustainability. We are dedicated to revitalizing trade and investment connections. Areas such as defense, semiconductors, advanced technologies, and startups hold significant promise for deeper relations. I am confident that the India-Austria partnership will become increasingly innovation-focused and prepared for the future," he added.
Chancellor Stocker expressed gratitude to PM Modi for the warm welcome and stated that his visit signifies a new chapter in the friendship between India and Austria.
In a post on X, Stocker remarked: "Thank you, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, for your invitation and hospitality. It is a tremendous honor to be in New Delhi as the first Austrian Chancellor to visit India in over four decades. This visit signifies a new chapter in a friendship that has flourished for more than 75 years. In an era of rising geopolitical uncertainty, dependable partners united by shared values are increasingly vital."
Earlier that day, the Austrian Chancellor paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) shared on X, "Honoring Bapu and his principles. Federal Chancellor Dr. Christian Stocker of Austria paid respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, laying a wreath and contemplating Gandhiji's lasting message of peace, non-violence, and global harmony."
Stocker arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for his inaugural official visit to India since taking office, with the goal of fortifying bilateral relations in crucial sectors, including trade, investment, and emerging technologies.
On the same day, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with the Austrian Chancellor, expressing optimism that their discussions with Prime Minister Modi would pave the way for enhanced cooperation between the two nations.
