SpiceJet Flights Disrupted at Delhi Airport: Delays and Cancellations Reported

Operational Disruptions Affect SpiceJet Flights

New Delhi, Sep 19: On Saturday, numerous SpiceJet flights at Indira Gandhi International Airport experienced delays and cancellations due to operational issues, impacting many travelers.

Airport officials have urged passengers to reach out to their respective airlines for the most current flight information or to seek help from the on-ground teams available.

In an advisory shared on X, the Delhi airport expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to passengers due to the operational issues affecting some SpiceJet flights. They assured that airport teams are working closely with the airline and other relevant parties to assist those affected.

This disruption follows a previous incident on September 15, when around 200 passengers protested at the Delhi airport due to repeated delays and rescheduling of flights to Dubai. The airline stated that alternative flights were being organized after one of its aircraft was grounded.

SpiceJet has been facing significant financial and operational challenges, resulting in a considerable portion of its fleet being out of service.

In July, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on SpiceJet Limited for employing misleading design tactics, known as "dark patterns," on its flight booking site. This included automatically enrolling customers in its loyalty program and obtaining consent for promotional communications through pre-selected options.

The CCPA's ruling came after it determined that the airline's online booking interface compromised consumer choice and violated the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

It was also noted that users were considered to have consented to receive promotional messages because the relevant option was pre-selected without requiring any explicit action from them.

Earlier this month, several flight operations faced disruptions due to adverse weather and technical issues. For instance, an Air India flight (AI431) was redirected to Lucknow because of poor weather and visibility conditions.
