Strengthening Local Economies

New Delhi: On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraged citizens to support local artisans by purchasing their products, reinforcing the 'Vocal for Local' initiative as Diwali approaches.

During his monthly radio show 'Mann Ki Baat', he emphasized the achievements of Indian goods in global markets.

He noted that Bihar's 'makhana' and Karnataka's 'arhar dal' are expanding their reach internationally, while tribal products from Maharashtra are gaining fame through packaging that showcases tribal artistry.

"The demand for Khadi is on the rise, benefiting artisans who preserve our cultural heritage. Let's bolster 'Vocal for Local' by opting for products crafted by our local artisans," Modi stated.

The Prime Minister also discussed the revival of traditional agricultural methods in Punjab, highlighting the efforts of an organization called 'Kheti Virasat Mission' that is revitalizing organic farming.

He mentioned that this initiative, named 'Nav-Trinjan', aims to promote natural cotton farming in Punjab's Malwa region.

"This initiative focuses on cultivating organic cotton without chemicals. Additionally, cotton with natural colors is produced, eliminating the need for chemical dyes in the yarn and fabrics," he explained.

Modi further shared the inspiring story of residents in Tehri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand, who united to rejuvenate the Heval river.

He recalled that a few years back, the Heval river's water levels were declining, and surrounding natural water sources were drying up.

In response, local authorities and villagers collaborated to initiate a campaign aimed at conserving the Heval river.

"Efforts included rainwater harvesting, soil water channeling, and extensive tree planting. Today, thanks to these initiatives, the Heval river has been revitalized, and numerous natural water sources have been restored," he remarked.

In his broadcast, Modi expressed that 'Mann Ki Baat' serves as a "pilgrimage" for him, allowing him to connect with the efforts of the nation's citizens and honor their contributions.
