Paytm Europe Secures Payment Institution License in Luxembourg
Paytm's Expansion into Europe
One 97 Communications, the parent company of Paytm, has revealed that its wholly owned subsidiary in Luxembourg, Paytm Europe Payments SA, has obtained a payment institution license from the financial regulator in Luxembourg, effective from July 2, 2026. According to a regulatory announcement, the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF) has officially registered Paytm Europe Payments SA on its list of licensed payment institutions.
This license enables Paytm Europe to offer various services, including the execution of payment transactions, which encompasses fund transfers on accounts managed by the user's payment service provider or another provider. Specifically, the services include executing credit transfers, managing standing orders, and facilitating payment transactions backed by a credit line.
In a recent report, One 97 Communications disclosed a consolidated net profit of Rs 183 crore for March 2025, a notable improvement from a net loss of Rs 545 crore during the same period the previous year. Analysts view this as a significant recovery for Paytm, especially after overcoming previous regulatory and cost challenges. The licensing of Paytm Europe by Luxembourg's financial authority underscores the company's efforts to broaden its presence in the European fintech market.
