Viral Moment Boosts Parle's Popularity
Parle Products has embraced the viral social media moment featuring Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who were seen enjoying a packet of Melody toffees. The company shared the video on Instagram, captioning it, “Sweetening relationships since 1983.” Parle, based in Mumbai, has been producing Melody toffees since its inception in 1983, originally founded as Express Bottlers Services Pvt Ltd before rebranding to Parle Software Ltd. The company, which was initially part of the Parle-Bisleri group, now operates independently across various sectors including infrastructure, real estate, and paper waste recycling.
Mayank Shah, Parle Products’ vice president and chief marketing officer, commented on the viral post, stating, “We anticipate a significant increase in both domestic and international sales following this internet-breaking moment,” as reported by a media outlet. He expressed gratitude to PM Modi for providing the company with a global platform to showcase Indian products.
Following this event, shares of Parle Industries surged by 5 percent during intraday trading on Wednesday, marking a nearly 7% increase over the past week. On the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the stock reached its upper circuit limit at Rs 5.25, gaining Rs 0.25.
During their meeting, Meloni shared a light-hearted exchange with PM Modi, thanking him for the gift of Melody toffees from India. This friendly interaction quickly gained traction online, contributing to the popularity of the Melodi memes. The friendship between Modi and Meloni first became prominent during the COP28 summit in 2023.
