Pakistan and China Forge New Digital Ties with 24 MoUs

In a significant move to enhance digital collaboration, Pakistan and China have signed 24 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements, aimed at strengthening ties in the IT sector, include various government and business partnerships. The initiative seeks to create a digital corridor that will benefit Pakistani technology firms and improve ICT infrastructure. The Ministry of IT and Telecom is also working to train a large number of Pakistani youth in advanced digital skills. This development is part of the ongoing efforts related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a key project under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Strengthening Digital Collaboration

Islamabad: Recent reports indicate that Pakistan and China have formalized 24 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to bolster their digital partnership, as announced by state media on Monday.

These agreements were finalized in Beijing under the Joint Working Group on IT Cooperation, comprising one government-to-government, seven government-to-business, and 16 business-to-business accords, according to Radio Pakistan.

The primary goal of this initiative is to establish a dynamic digital corridor that will foster collaboration within the IT sector.

This corridor is expected to open new opportunities for Pakistani tech firms and enhance cooperation in the development of ICT infrastructure.

The Ministry of IT and Telecom is actively seeking international partnerships to equip up to 300,000 Pakistani youth with advanced digital skills, promote the adoption of AI, and boost IT exports and digital capabilities.

Additionally, both nations are advancing the second phase of the multi-billion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which was initiated in 2014.

IT collaboration is a crucial aspect of the CPEC, which links China's Xinjiang region to Pakistan's Gwadar port in Balochistan. This corridor is considered a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), championed by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
