Price Adjustments Announced by OMFED

In Bhubaneswar, the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) has announced an increase in the prices of its milk products, effective from October 4. As per the official notice released on October 1, the maximum retail price (MRP) for toned milk is now set at Rs 29 for a 500-ml pouch, while premium milk will be priced at Rs 30 for the same volume.

For consumers, Gold milk will be available at Rs 31 per 500 ml, and Gold Plus will cost Rs 33 for the same quantity. The updated MRP for toned milk (with 3.0% fat and 8.5% SNF) is Rs 58 per litre, while premium milk (3.5% fat and 8.5% SNF) will be Rs 60 per litre. Gold milk (4.0% fat and 8.5% SNF) is now priced at Rs 62 per litre, and Gold Plus (4.5% fat and 8.5% SNF) will be Rs 66 per litre.

Additionally, OMFED has adjusted the retailer purchase rates for its various milk products. Under the new promotional initiative, retailers will receive one complimentary 500-ml pouch of toned milk for every 20 litres sold. For premium milk, two free 500-ml pouches will be given for every 30 litres purchased, while those buying less than 30 litres will still receive one free pouch for every 20 litres. For Gold Plus milk, retailers will get one free 500-ml pouch for every 10 litres sold.

However, there will be no complimentary pouch scheme for Gold milk. The existing policy for replacing defective or leaking milk pouches will remain in place for all variants. Retailers will also receive one free 500-ml pouch of toned milk for every 50 litres sold as a replacement for leaky pouches. This price hike is expected to impact household budgets, especially as consumers are already dealing with rising costs of essential goods.

In a bid to enhance transparency, OMFED is also planning to implement QR codes on its dairy products, allowing consumers to verify product authenticity and details. These codes will provide information such as production date, location, shelf life, and usage instructions. This feature has already been rolled out for ghee, with plans to include paneer, curd, and other dairy items soon.
