Odisha's Commitment to Food Processing

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Friday that Odisha is poised to become India's leading hub for food processing. He presented a comprehensive vision aimed at leveraging the state's agricultural capabilities to create a competitive food processing environment, urging industry leaders to collaborate in Odisha's upcoming industrial expansion.

During the Odisha Food Pro 2026 event, which marked the state's inaugural sector-specific investment roadshow held outside its borders, Majhi emphasized the pivotal role of food processing in Odisha's economic evolution, linking it directly to the prosperity of farmers, rural development, and industrial advancement.

The event garnered significant interest from the industry, showcasing a growing trust in Odisha's investment landscape. The government finalized 27 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with proposed investments totaling ₹41,748 crore, which could potentially create 35,252 jobs.

Additionally, 12 Investment Intent Forms (IIFs) were received, amounting to ₹1,689 crore, anticipated to generate 8,064 more jobs. In total, the first day of the investment outreach in New Delhi attracted proposals worth ₹43,437 crore, with the potential to create 43,316 employment opportunities, solidifying Odisha's status as one of India's rapidly growing food processing investment destinations.

"Food processing transcends being just another industry; it serves as a vital link between the prosperity of our farmers, rural transformation, and the industrial future of Odisha. Each investment in this sector adds value at the farm level, creates jobs in rural areas, boosts exports, and strengthens the economy. Odisha is ready to be India's preferred food processing destination, and I invite the industry to join us on this journey," Majhi stated.

The Chief Minister further noted that the state is evolving its approach to food processing, moving beyond viewing it as a mere industrial sector. Instead, Odisha is developing a holistic ecosystem that benefits farmers, fishers, women entrepreneurs, self-help groups (SHGs), farmer-producer organizations, micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and rural businesses through enhanced value addition within the state.

Majhi highlighted Odisha's competitive advantages, stating that the state provides investors with ample raw materials, boasts 10 agro-climatic zones, a 575-km coastline, a flourishing fisheries sector, expanding port facilities, improved logistics connectivity, and one of the most investor-friendly policy frameworks in India.
