Noel Tata, who has served as the Chairman of Trent, the flagship retail arm of the Tata Group, is preparing to retire after almost three decades of dedicated service. Approaching his 70th birthday in November, he is set to step down in accordance with the Group's governance policies, which stipulate a retirement age of 65 for executive directors and 70 for non-executive directors. During the company's 47th Annual General Meeting, Noel addressed shareholders, stating, "As you might be aware, this will be my last annual general meeting as chairman."

Under Noel Tata's leadership, Trent's revenue surged to Rs 19,701 crore in the fiscal year 2026. He became a board member in 1998, following the establishment of the company by his mother, Simone Tata, after the divestment of Lakme. Born in Mumbai in 1957 to Naval and Simone Tata, Noel is the half-brother of Ratan Tata and Jimmy Tata. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Sussex and completed the International Executive Programme at INSEAD. In 1999, he was appointed Managing Director of Trent, where he played a pivotal role in expanding the Westside retail chain throughout India. Additionally, he spearheaded the value-fashion brand Zudio, which quickly became one of India's most successful retail ventures.

Noel Tata ascended to the position of Chairman of Tata Trusts in October 2024, following Ratan Tata's passing. Tata Trusts holds approximately 66% of Tata Sons, making this role one of the most influential within the Tata Group. As Managing Director of Tata International Limited from August 2010 to November 2021, he significantly increased the company's turnover from USD 500 million to over USD 3 billion. Under his guidance, Trent Limited expanded from a single store in 1998 to over 800 stores across various formats today.
