Karim Kabiruddin: A Leader in the Dairy Industry

Karim Kabiruddin serves as the Executive Director of Health Food Products Pvt Ltd (HFPPL), a Cuttack-based company known for its popular ice cream brand, initially called Frostee and now rebranded as ‘Fun India’. Founded in 1997, HFPPL has transformed from a local business into a formidable competitor in Odisha's dairy sector, standing strong against major national brands. Under Karim's guidance, the company has not only created numerous job opportunities throughout the state but has also established a beloved brand recognized for its diverse flavors appealing to all demographics.

A Journey Rooted in Family and Education

Karim's roots trace back to Cuttack, where he completed his education at Stewart School. He holds a Commerce (Honours) degree from Ravenshaw College and a law degree from Madhu Sudan Law College. Growing up in a business-oriented family, his interest in entrepreneurship was nurtured from a young age. Following the unexpected passing of his father, Karim gradually took on the responsibilities of the family business.

Choosing the Food Processing Sector

While managing the family business in Malgodown, Karim sought to venture into a field that would not only provide personal fulfillment but also generate employment for others. His desire to support livelihoods was a driving force behind his decision. When presented with an opportunity to acquire an ice cream company, he seized it, leading to the establishment of Health Food Products and the launch of the Frostee brand, which was later rebranded as Fun India.

Ensuring Safety in Food Processing

In the food processing sector, compliance with government regulations is paramount at every production stage. Continuous monitoring and a strong emphasis on hygiene are vital, as the products are consumed directly by customers. Utilizing high-quality raw materials and automated machinery is essential to ensure safety, consistency, and quality throughout the production and packaging processes.

Challenges in the Ice Cream Market

The production and sale of ice cream in Odisha present various challenges. As a product with a short shelf life, it requires storage at approximately -30°C, making power outages a significant issue. Competing against well-established national and international brands necessitates unwavering quality and persistent effort. Furthermore, transportation demands specialized temperature-controlled vehicles, and any delays can jeopardize timely delivery and product quality.

Future Aspirations for Growth

Looking ahead, HFPPL aims to upgrade its machinery to boost production capacity and broaden its market presence. The objective is to solidify the Fun India brand across eastern India and gradually expand into southern and northern regions.

Advice for the Next Generation

Karim emphasizes the importance of focus and dedication for the youth in contributing to a developed nation. He advises young individuals to prioritize customer needs and embrace new technologies while understanding that there are no shortcuts to achieving success.
