Government Clarifies Fuel Price Status

New Delhi: The Press Information Bureau's (PIB) fact-checking division has labeled a viral message claiming a fuel price increase of up to Rs 12.50 per litre as false.

The PIB clarified that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) has not issued any such directive.

In a post on X, the PIB Fact Check stated, "The circulating order regarding fuel price hikes is not authentic. The Government of India has not released any such announcement."

They also encouraged the public to verify information through official channels and refrain from spreading unverified claims.

This clarification follows the spread of a supposed government notification on social media that suggested a significant rise in fuel prices.

On Tuesday, a senior official from the government indicated that there are currently no plans to raise retail fuel prices, aiming to alleviate concerns amid escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia affecting global energy markets.

During an inter-ministerial briefing, Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, confirmed that petrol and diesel prices will remain stable for the time being, while the government continues to monitor the situation closely. She assured consumers of the adequate supply of essential fuels.

"LPG, petroleum, and diesel are sufficiently available, and prices have not risen, so there is no need to panic," Sharma stated. The government has guaranteed a full supply for domestic LPG and PNG consumers, as well as for CNG used in transportation.

This reassurance comes as global oil markets face volatility due to uncertainties in West Asia, a crucial oil-producing area.
