IRCTC to Launch Enhanced Ticket Booking Platform by July 15
Revamping the Ticket Booking Experience
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is gearing up to unveil a revamped website aimed at transforming the railway ticket booking process by July 15. This initiative was announced by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, following feedback from students who expressed frustrations with the current system, particularly regarding ticket booking challenges.
During an event in Rajasthan, students pointed out various issues, notably the frequent CAPTCHA verifications that complicate the booking experience. In response, the Railway Minister assured that a new, improved platform would soon be available, designed to enhance user-friendliness and speed.
One of the key upgrades to the IRCTC portal is its capacity to manage a significantly higher volume of bookings. Currently, the system handles approximately 32,000 ticket bookings per minute, but the new platform is projected to accommodate over 150,000 bookings every minute. This enhancement aims to alleviate congestion, especially during peak times like Tatkal reservations, where users often face slow loading times and transaction failures.
Faster and More Efficient Reservation System
In addition to increased booking capacity, the upgraded Passenger Reservation System (PRS) will greatly enhance enquiry processing. The new system is expected to handle more than 4 million enquiries per minute, a substantial increase from the current capacity of around 400,000 enquiries per minute.
Passengers can also look forward to several new features with this upgrade. Travelers will have the ability to indicate their preferred seat selections during the booking process. A newly introduced fare calendar will allow users to compare ticket prices across various travel dates before finalizing their bookings.
The redesigned platform is anticipated to support multiple Indian languages, facilitating easier navigation for users from diverse regions. Additionally, services tailored for Divyangjan, students, and patients will be consolidated into a single platform, streamlining access to various travel-related benefits.
Streamlined Interface and Simplified Tatkal Booking
The new IRCTC website is expected to present a cleaner, more organized interface. Reports suggest that unnecessary pop-ups, distracting animations, and excessive CAPTCHA checks that disrupt the booking process will be eliminated. These modifications are likely to enhance the Tatkal ticket booking experience, where every second is crucial for passengers seeking confirmed seats.
Another significant improvement will be the display of seat availability. Instead of checking each travel class separately, users will be able to view availability across all classes on a single screen, making it quicker to compare options and reducing the time spent searching for suitable tickets.
With increased booking capacity, faster enquiry processing, and a more user-friendly interface, the new IRCTC website is set to provide a vastly improved ticket booking experience for millions of railway passengers nationwide.
