Innovative Potato Cultivation Takes Root at Central University of Odisha
Advancements in Potato Production at CUO
Koraput: The Central University of Odisha (CUO) has partnered with the International Potato Center (CIP) from Peru to host a program dedicated to potato innovation and technology at its Sunabeda campus. This initiative emphasizes advanced seed production techniques, protected cultivation, and collaborative research.
During the event, CUO's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ajit Kumar Shasany, officially opened new polyhouse and net-house facilities designed for the production of potato cuttings and rooted cuttings under controlled conditions.
The technical sessions highlighted innovative methods for potato seed production, such as aeroponics and apical root cutting. The discussions aimed at enhancing the quality of planting materials and creating sustainable potato production systems tailored for Koraput and its surrounding areas.
Participants, including scientists, university officials, faculty, and students, toured the newly established facilities where demonstrations of potato cutting and rooted cutting production were conducted.
This program is designed to foster the adoption of cutting-edge potato production technologies and enhance research and technology transfer initiatives within the Koraput region.
