New Delhi, July 27: An IndiGo flight traveling from Mumbai to Dubai was forced to make an emergency landing at Rajkot airport in Gujarat on Monday after smoke was detected in the cargo hold.

The flight, designated as 6E 1452, was carrying 194 passengers when the crew noticed smoke in the cargo area and promptly notified air traffic control.

In response to the alert, Rajkot airport declared a full emergency to ensure a safe landing for the aircraft.

The plane landed safely at Rajkot airport, and all passengers were able to disembark without sustaining any injuries.

According to Rajkot Airport Director Diganta Borah, the IndiGo flight made the emergency landing after smoke was reported in the cargo hold. He confirmed that the aircraft landed safely and all passengers were unharmed.

As part of standard operating procedures, airport emergency services were on standby following the declaration of a full emergency.

The exact cause of the smoke remains unknown, and an investigation is anticipated to uncover the reason behind the incident. The airline has yet to release an official statement regarding the matter.

IndiGo is recognized as India's largest airline by market share, operating flights to over 80 domestic and more than 30 international destinations.

The airline's fleet mainly consists of Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, along with ATR 72-600 turboprop planes utilized for regional services.

The airline's financial performance saw a significant downturn in the June quarter, with InterGlobe Aviation experiencing a consolidated net loss of Rs 238 crore, a stark decline from a net profit of Rs 2,176.3 crore during the same quarter last year, marking a drop of over Rs 2,400 crore in its earnings.

The loss of Rs 238 crore in the June quarter wiped out nearly 90% of the previous year's quarterly profit, pushing the company into a loss position.
