India's WPI Inflation Shows Slight Decline in July 2026

New Delhi, Aug 14: The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation in India, based on the 2022-23 base year, registered at 9.78% year-on-year for July, a slight decrease from June's 9.87%, as per the provisional data released by the government on Friday.
The overall index for all commodities in July was recorded at 110.0, down from 110.2 in June, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
The report indicated that inflation rates for Primary Articles, Fuel and Power, and Manufactured Products were 8.52%, 20.05%, and 8.29%, respectively, in July, compared to 7.0%, 27.41%, and 7.48% in June.
In terms of indices, Primary Articles, Fuel and Power, and Manufactured Products stood at 117.2, 105.4, and 108.4 in July 2026, while they were 116.1, 111.1, and 107.8 in June 2026.
Key contributors to WPI inflation in July included ‘Mineral Oils (including Petroleum Products)’, ‘Food Articles’, ‘Manufacture of Basic Metals’, ‘Non-Food Articles’, ‘Manufacture of Food Products’, and ‘Manufacture of Chemicals and Chemical Products’.
The WPI Food Index recorded a year-on-year inflation rate of 6.65% in July 2026, up from 6.14% in June 2026.
Additionally, the final index for May 2026 was adjusted from a provisional estimate of 109.9 to 110.1, leading to a revision of WPI inflation from 9.68% to 9.88% based on the final figures.
The final estimate for WPI in May was compiled with a response rate of 98.14%.
Furthermore, the final index of Output Producer Price Index (PPI) for May 2026 was revised from 109.6 (provisional) to 109.9.
For July 2026, the All India Trial Input Producer Price Index (PPI) for the Manufacturing Sector was recorded at 105.9 (provisional), while the Trial Input PPI for May was revised from 104.9 (provisional) to 106.5 (final index).
