Job Creation in Renewable Energy

A recent study by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) in collaboration with NRDC India indicates that India's commitment to renewable energy could lead to the creation of over 4.4 million jobs by the year 2030. The report highlights that rooftop solar installations are expected to be the primary driver of employment, contributing approximately 43% of the total job opportunities.

Titled 'Driving Energy Transition: Workforce, Skills, and Gender in India's Renewable Energy Sector', the study emphasizes that rooftop solar will play a crucial role in meeting India's ambitious target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel power capacity, alongside the objectives outlined in the National Green Hydrogen Mission.

Furthermore, the report reveals that various clean energy sectors have already added over 650,000 jobs between FY23 and FY26, with rooftop solar alone accounting for 62% of this workforce growth. Other contributors include PM-KUSUM, which added 16.3%, biomass power at 12.6%, and ground-mounted solar contributing 6% to the overall job increase.
