New York, September 3: Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, has advocated for India's reform-driven growth narrative to potential investors during a prominent business roundtable. She emphasized the country's impressive 7.8% economic growth in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2026-27 and the enhanced investment environment, as reported on Thursday.

Speaking at the event organized by the Indian Consulate in collaboration with Bank of America, Sitharaman noted that India remains the fastest-growing major economy globally, despite facing various global challenges, according to a statement from the Ministry of Finance on X.

She also pointed out several reforms, including the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, which have contributed to greater regulatory clarity, simplified compliance, and reduced bureaucratic hurdles under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.

The Finance Minister mentioned that the government is dedicated to building capital assets and bolstering industries through infrastructure projects, particularly in the aviation sector, while also nurturing a favorable investment atmosphere, as stated by the ministry.

Key areas of focus include the promotion of artificial intelligence and data centers, support for global capability centers, ensuring credit access for micro, small, and medium enterprises, and minimizing non-performing assets in banks, she added.

These initiatives have fostered a more supportive business landscape for banks and industries to thrive and strengthen, according to the Finance Minister.

Sitharaman reaffirmed India's commitment to maintaining fiscal discipline and prudence, even amidst ongoing global economic challenges stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.

She highlighted the significant improvement in the investment climate, with both central and state governments demonstrating increased enthusiasm and competitiveness in attracting and facilitating investments.

These initiatives align with India's broader vision of achieving Viksit Bharat 2047, as she noted.

In his opening remarks, Vinay Kwatra, the Indian Ambassador to the US, remarked that India's 7.8% growth in the first quarter showcases the resilience of its economy. He suggested that both India and the US could benefit from India's rapid economic growth by enhancing trade and investment ties between the two nations.
