India's Rise in Defence Manufacturing

New Delhi: India has positioned itself as a significant player in the global defence manufacturing arena, with military hardware exports projected to reach Rs 38,424 crore by the fiscal year 2025-26, according to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's announcement on Friday.

In a statement to the armed forces ahead of Independence Day, Singh highlighted that the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved projects exceeding Rs 8.75 lakh crore over the past year, reflecting the government's commitment to military modernization.

Singh remarked, "India is no longer merely a nation that satisfies its own security requirements; we are evolving into a formidable force in global defence manufacturing and exports."

He emphasized that the initiatives undertaken have transformed the landscape of defence production, significantly decreasing reliance on imports while boosting domestic manufacturing.

The government is also prioritizing the fortification of border regions alongside the modernization of the armed forces, Singh noted.

He further stated, "The most compelling evidence of India's self-sufficiency in the defence sector is our export figures. Defence exports have skyrocketed from just Rs 686 crore in 2013-14 to an impressive Rs 38,424 crore in 2025-26."

This indicates a staggering increase of over 5,500 percent in defence exports within a decade, he added.
