India's Agricultural Exports Gain Momentum with New Consignments

India's agricultural sector is witnessing significant growth as Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal announces successful exports of Sinduri pomegranates to Dubai and frozen foods to Canada. These initiatives, supported by APEDA, aim to connect local farmers with global markets, enhancing their income and boosting India's export profile. New Delhi, Oct 22: On Thursday, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal announced that a shipment of Sinduri pomegranates from Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, has successfully reached Dubai, showcasing the expanding reach of Indian agricultural products in international markets.

Goyal highlighted that with the assistance of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), 1.3 metric tons of Sinduri pomegranates were exported to Dubai. This initiative aims to connect local farmers with global markets, significantly boosting their income and enhancing India's agricultural export profile.

Earlier this month, APEDA also facilitated the export of 24 metric tons of frozen food items from Sonipat, Haryana, to Canada. This shipment, led by Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), included a variety of products such as green peas, mixed vegetables, sweet corn, and samosas, supported by APEDA’s financial assistance program.

During the announcement, Goyal mentioned that a state-level workshop focused on leveraging Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) was held in Gandhinagar, attracting over 200 participants, including state officials and exporters.

He praised Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel for promoting local business participation, which is expected to enhance Gujarat's contribution to India's overall exports.

Goyal emphasized that the numerous FTAs established by the government in recent years have created vast opportunities for Indian exporters. The government's priority is to ensure that these advantages benefit farmers, workers, women, youth, MSMEs, and small enterprises, enabling them to export more Made in India products globally.

“To maximize these opportunities, the Department of Commerce is conducting targeted FTA outreach initiatives in collaboration with state governments,” the minister added.

He also commended Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for his involvement in promoting local businesses to explore new export avenues, stating, “More initiatives will be rolled out nationwide to help each state realize its unique export potential, optimize the use of our FTAs, and invigorate India's export growth.
