Indian Defence Ministry Secures Major Contracts to Boost Tank Capabilities
Significant Contracts Signed for T-72 and T-90 Tanks
On Tuesday, the Ministry of Defence in New Delhi finalized contracts valued at approximately ₹975 crore aimed at acquiring essential equipment for the Army's T-72 and T-90 tanks, significantly improving their ability to breach minefields.
These agreements were signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
According to a ministry announcement, contracts were established with Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) and Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics (India) Private Limited for the TRAWL Assembly for T-72 and T-90 tanks, totaling around ₹975 crore.
The TRAWL Assembly, a crucial component developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), is designed to enhance the Indian Army's capability to navigate through minefields.
This equipment will facilitate the creation of safe pathways for vehicles through minefields laden with anti-tank mines equipped with proximity magnetic fuses, thereby boosting the operational efficiency of the Army.
As part of the 'Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured)' initiative, this procurement represents a significant advancement in modernizing India's defense capabilities and supporting local industries, aligning with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
The project is expected to generate substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities by promoting the manufacturing of components within the MSME sector.
