Strengthening Ties Between Australia and Odisha
Bhubaneswar: On Tuesday, Australian Consul General Bernard Lynch held discussions with KV Singh Deo, the Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture, Farmers’ Empowerment, and Energy, at Lok Seva Bhawan. The meeting aimed to explore avenues for enhancing collaboration in renewable energy, agriculture, and technological advancements. Lynch commended Odisha for its impressive strides in the agricultural sector, noting that the state has surpassed the national average growth rate. He also acknowledged the state's initiatives to modernize its power infrastructure, which have led to significant improvements in power generation and transmission.
Lynch emphasized Odisha's commitment to establishing a sustainable energy future. In response, Singh Deo shared that the state government has initiated various projects aimed at increasing renewable energy production and consumption. He mentioned that supportive policies have been implemented to effectively utilize Odisha’s natural resources and promote clean energy growth.
Regarding agriculture, Singh Deo pointed out that Odisha is achieving record production levels, which are enhancing farmer incomes and setting new industry standards. Both leaders expressed hope that their discussions would further solidify the partnership between Australia, India, and Odisha, particularly in clean energy, agriculture, and technology. This collaboration is expected to align with India's broader development objectives for Odisha.
Lynch also met with Sampad Chandra Swain, the Minister for Industries, Skill Development, and Technical Education, at his residence on the same day. Their conversation focused on fostering cooperation between Odisha and Australia in critical areas such as industry, skill development, and technical education. They discussed strategies to attract industrial investments and expand advanced training opportunities for the youth. Lynch praised the performance of Paradip Port, highlighting its emergence as a major cargo-handling center in India, and commended the Odisha government’s welfare programs and achievements in industrial growth and skill development over the last two years.
The Consul General expressed optimism about future collaborations, stating that stronger ties between Odisha and Australia could significantly enhance the state's economic development while fostering a highly skilled workforce.
