Gautam Adani Highlights India's Energy and AI Potential at CII Summit

At the CII Annual Business Summit, Gautam Adani articulated a vision for India's future, emphasizing the importance of energy control and AI development. He highlighted the need for India to harness its existing demand for construction projects and outlined the country's ambitious energy goals. Adani also discussed the significance of AI in enhancing productivity and empowering small businesses, urging that it should not be feared. With major projects underway, including the world's largest renewable energy site, Adani's insights provide a roadmap for India's industrial and technological advancement in the coming decades.

Adani's Vision for India's Future

During the CII Annual Business Summit on May 11, 2026, Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, emphasized that true freedom in the 21st century hinges on controlling one's energy, intelligence, and technological capabilities.

He pointed out that the world has transitioned from being 'flat' to 'fractured', where supply chains, energy, and data have become critical components of national security.

Adani stated, "Countries that control their energy will shape their industrial future. Those that manage computing and data will define their intelligence future. And nations that master both will determine the course of the coming century."

Lessons from Global Leaders

Using the United States and China as examples, Adani noted that both nations have achieved energy and digital self-sufficiency in their unique ways. The U.S. has established dominance in energy through shale, oil, and gas revolutions, while China has laid the groundwork for its digital future by combining coal and renewable energy along with ensuring national control over AI.

Opportunities for India

Adani highlighted that India stands to benefit significantly, as there is already a demand for every construction project, whether it involves factories, vehicles, digital services, or small businesses.

By March 2026, India surpassed 500 gigawatts of power capacity and aims to reach 2,000 gigawatts by 2047.

Adani's Perspective on AI

He urged that India should not fear AI like the Western world does. The goal of AI should not be to eliminate jobs but to enhance productivity, create new industries and jobs, and empower small businesses.

Adani explained that the success of AI will depend on three layers:

  1. Power Layer: Computing is impossible without energy.

  2. Compute Layer: Data centers, chips, GPUs, servers, and networks are the factories of intelligence.

  3. Application Layer: This layer connects AI to farmers, teachers, doctors, small businesses, and citizens.

Contributions of Adani Group

The Adani Group is developing the world's largest single-site renewable energy project in Khavda, Gujarat, with a capacity of 30 gigawatts.

They are also constructing large-scale data center campuses in collaboration with major tech companies like Google and Microsoft.

Under the Adani Foundation, there is a long-term commitment of ₹60,000 crores for education, health, skill development, and community development.

Adani stressed, "The future does not come by itself; it is created. We must build for farmers, teachers, nurses, small businesses, and the millions of invisible hands that drive India forward. The next battle will not be fought at our borders but within our grids, data centers, factories, classrooms, and labs."
