Introduction to EPFO 3.0

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is undergoing a significant digital overhaul, referred to as EPFO 3.0. This initiative aims to facilitate a completely paperless process for withdrawing or transferring provident fund savings, marking a major advancement for subscribers. With this new system, employees will be able to transfer their provident fund savings using UPI and UPI-enabled ATMs, effectively eliminating delays.

Details on the Launch of EPFO 3.0

Recently, Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced that the testing phase for this new service has concluded, and it is anticipated to be launched shortly. The focus is on how smoothly the new system will operate.

Withdrawal Capabilities Under EPFO 3.0

With the introduction of EPFO 3.0, subscribers will have the ability to withdraw between 50% to 75% of their EPF balance through UPI or UPI-enabled ATMs under most circumstances. This change is designed to streamline the process, providing immediate access to funds without the previous delays.

Increased Auto-Settlement Limit

The auto-settlement limit has been significantly increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. This adjustment allows eligible members to receive funds in their bank accounts within 72 hours for urgent needs such as medical expenses, education, weddings, and housing.

Addressing Core Issues with EPFO 3.0

EPFO 3.0 will incorporate face authentication technology via the UMANG app for various essential services. This AI-driven, contactless verification method will remove the necessity for physical documents and reduce delays caused by OTPs, enabling users to update their information and submit claims online. Additionally, new members will be able to activate their Universal Account Numbers (UANs) directly from their smartphones, simplifying the process for both new and existing members.
