New Delhi, May 12: The government-supported e-commerce platform DigiHaat has unveiled 'Swadeshi', a specialized marketplace aimed at promoting genuine 'Made-in-Bharat' products and enhancing local production networks.

Vision Behind Swadeshi

This initiative, managed by the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), aligns with the goal of fostering an Atmanirbhar Bharat through commerce that emphasizes Swadeshi principles.

Swadeshi will operate as a marketplace within the DigiHaat application, allowing consumers to buy directly from artisans, farmer collectives, self-help groups (SHGs), NGOs, and Indian brands.

Product Offerings and Community Engagement

The platform will showcase a variety of Bharat-made products, including food grains, seeds, clothing, handicrafts, home decor, bags, and other essentials.

As per DigiHaat, over 2,000 artisans and more than 1,100 farmer groups from various regions are already part of this platform.

Economic Impact and Future Goals

Rahul Vij emphasized that this initiative aims to fortify the nation’s economic structure by connecting Indian producers with consumers.

He noted that every transaction on the platform would aid local businesses, lessen reliance on international supply chains, and further the vision of a self-sufficient India.

DigiHaat's Swadeshi initiative aspires to become a national platform founded on the ethos of "Bharat Se, Bharat Tak".

Recent Developments and Services

In April, DigiHaat also introduced metro ticketing services in major metropolitan areas like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, marking a significant advancement in its ambition to evolve into a comprehensive digital commerce platform.

During the same month, the platform achieved over 2 million downloads and established a community of more than 30,000 users across its various channels.

Additionally, DigiHaat offers services such as food delivery, e-commerce, and ride-hailing through partnerships with networks like Bharat Taxi and Namma Yatri.

DigiHaat operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary within the ONDC ecosystem and is governed by Nirmit Bharat, a Section 8 not-for-profit organization.
