Cloudflare Announces Major Layoffs Amid AI Restructuring
Cloudflare's Layoff Announcement
Cloudflare has revealed plans to lay off over 1,100 employees worldwide as part of a strategic restructuring focused on artificial intelligence (AI). This decision was communicated to staff through an internal memo, indicating that the changes are designed to position Cloudflare for the emerging 'agentic AI era,' where AI-driven tools and processes are becoming integral to business functions.
According to Cloudflare executives, the company's internal utilization of AI has surged by over 600% in just the past three months. Employees from various departments, including engineering, finance, human resources, and marketing, are now engaging in thousands of AI agent sessions on a daily basis. The company clarified that the layoffs are not a reflection of employee performance but rather a significant organizational shift aimed at enhancing efficiency through AI-centric workflows.
The memo also outlined that those affected by the layoffs will receive severance packages that guarantee full base pay until the end of 2026. Additionally, employees in the US will maintain their healthcare benefits for the remainder of the year. Cloudflare confirmed that stock equity for those leaving the company will continue to vest until August 15, and employees who have not yet completed their one-year vesting period will receive prorated equity benefits.
