This decision was communicated to staff through an internal memo, indicating that the changes are designed to position Cloudflare for the emerging 'agentic AI era,' where AI-driven tools and processes are becoming integral to business functions.

According to Cloudflare executives, the company's internal utilization of AI has surged by over 600% in just the past three months. Employees from various departments, including engineering, finance, human resources, and marketing, are now engaging in thousands of AI agent sessions on a daily basis. The company clarified that the layoffs are not a reflection of employee performance but rather a significant organizational shift aimed at enhancing efficiency through AI-centric workflows.

The memo also outlined that those affected by the layoffs will receive severance packages that guarantee full base pay until the end of 2026.
