Chilika Lake Set for Major Transformation: A New Era of Tourism and Livelihoods
Transforming Chilika Lake into a Tourism Hub
Bhubaneswar: MP Aparajita Sarangi has announced an ambitious initiative aimed at transforming the renowned Chilika Lake area into a premier destination for tourism and livelihoods, with development projects estimated at approximately Rs 1,300 crore. This picturesque region is celebrated for its stunning landscapes, migratory bird populations, the revered Kalijai Temple, and its abundant marine resources, including prawns and crabs, making it a vital economic and tourism hub for Odisha.
To maximize the area's potential, the state government, in collaboration with the Chilika Development Authority, has launched a comprehensive long-term development plan focused on enhancing infrastructure, beautification efforts, and improving the quality of life for over 200,000 residents in the vicinity of the lake.
During a foundation stone-laying event in Bhushandpur Panchayat, located in Khurda district, Sarangi mentioned that Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for various initiatives under the Rs 1,300-crore master plan are currently being developed after consultations with the Odisha government and the Chief Minister.
These initiatives are anticipated to significantly enhance livelihoods and create economic opportunities for communities reliant on Chilika across the districts of Khurda, Puri, and Ganjam.
