Cargo Ship Brings Vital LPG to Mangalore Amid Global Supply Challenges
Significant Arrival at Mangalore Port
New Delhi: In the midst of a worldwide supply chain disruption, a significant cargo ship transporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from the United States has successfully docked at Mangalore Port.
The Pyxis Pioneer, which set sail from Texas, has arrived at its destination.
Prior to this, another vessel named Aqua Titan, which was carrying Russian crude oil, also reached Mangalore, as per reports.
This particular ship was anchored approximately 18 nautical miles from the port, utilizing a single-point mooring system to transfer oil to the pipeline system leading to MRPL.
The arrival of Russian crude oil followed a temporary general license issued by the US, allowing the sale of stranded Russian crude oil at sea as of March 12.
This initiative aims to stabilize global fuel prices amidst ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
In response, India has significantly ramped up its imports of Russian oil, coinciding with the US's allowance for India to temporarily increase these imports.
This surge in purchases is a strategic move to address supply concerns stemming from disruptions in Middle Eastern oil supplies due to the current conflict involving Iran.
Earlier this week, the Indian-flagged LPG tanker 'Nanda Devi' arrived at Vadinar Port in Gujarat, marking the second LPG carrier to reach the west coast after 'Shivalik' docked at Mundra Port.
Both vessels have delivered essential LPG supplies to India following a perilous journey through the Strait of Hormuz, where maritime traffic has been affected by the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the US, and Israel.
Currently, there are 22 Indian-flagged vessels with 611 Indian seafarers in the western Persian Gulf region, with DG Shipping closely monitoring the situation in collaboration with ship owners, RPSL agencies, and Indian Missions.
