Leadership Change at Axis Bank


Axis Bank has officially announced the resignation of its Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Puneet Sharma, signaling a notable shift in leadership at one of India's prominent private banks. The bank disclosed to stock exchanges on Monday that Sharma has chosen to embark on a new chapter in his career, with his last working day set for August 31, 2026. As per the regulatory announcement, Sharma tendered his resignation on June 28, and post-departure, he will no longer hold any managerial position or be part of the senior management team.


In its announcement, the bank expressed gratitude for Sharma's contributions throughout his tenure and wished him success in his future endeavors. "The Bank acknowledges Puneet Sharma's valuable contributions during his time with us and extends its best wishes for his future pursuits," the statement read. The bank has yet to reveal who will take over the CFO role following Sharma's exit.


Puneet Sharma has been with Axis Bank as the Group Head and CFO since March 2020. He has been pivotal in managing the bank's financial operations and has overseen various essential functions beyond conventional finance, including legal affairs, investor relations, and procurement. His leadership as CFO was crucial in navigating the bank's financial planning and governance amidst evolving regulatory landscapes and fluctuating market conditions.


Rich Background in Banking and Financial Services


Prior to his tenure at Axis Bank, Sharma accumulated over ten years of experience at Tata Capital, where he joined in 2008 and rose to the position of Group Chief Financial Officer in 2014, leading the finance division. Earlier in his career, he worked at Citibank N.A., focusing on treasury operations and risk management, and also gained consulting experience at the Boston Consulting Group. A qualified Chartered Accountant, Sharma is an alumnus of the Indian School of Business (ISB) in Hyderabad. His extensive background in banking, financial services, and consulting has established him as a respected figure in the finance sector.
