Introduction of the Tayron

Volkswagen is preparing to unveil the Tayron, a new contender in the D segment, in India. Recent sightings of the vehicle undergoing tests on local roads suggest that a launch is imminent, likely before the upcoming festive season. The Tayron will be positioned above the current Tiguan in Volkswagen's Indian lineup.

Global Success and Indian Adaptation

The Tayron has enjoyed global success, contributing significantly to Volkswagen's sales and brand recognition. The version intended for India will feature a longer wheelbase and a 7-seater configuration, set to replace the Tiguan Allspace.

MQB Platform Overview

Built on the MQB platform, Volkswagen's modular design framework, the Tayron is designed for vehicles with transverse front engines and can accommodate both front-wheel and all-wheel drive layouts. The first model to utilize this platform was the Volkswagen Golf Mk7, which has allowed the company to optimize production across its global manufacturing facilities. MQB stands for Modular Transversal Toolkit.

Local Assembly and Pricing

To remain competitive against slightly more affordable SUVs, the Tayron will be imported as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) unit and assembled at the Aurangabad facility. The anticipated price for the new Tayron is approximately Rs 50 lakh.

Powertrain Specifications

The Tayron is expected to be equipped with a 2-liter Turbo Petrol TSi engine, generating around 204 PS of power. It will likely feature a 7-speed DSG transmission and Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. While diesel variants are available internationally, the Indian model may only offer a petrol option.

Interior Features and Safety

The global version of the Tayron boasts a modern interior, highlighted by a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, along with ambient lighting. Safety features will include Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which provide adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, automatic emergency braking, and other autonomous driving capabilities.
