The Vulnerability of Children to the Evil Eye

Children are inherently delicate and can easily fall victim to the evil eye, leading to illness and loss of appetite. This phenomenon can alter a person's positive thoughts into negative ones. While some dismiss this as superstition, there is a scientific basis behind it.

Scientific Perspective on the Evil Eye

At times, our skin pores can become blocked, causing the body to stop absorbing external stimuli. This blockage prevents the sensation of temperature changes, such as heat or cold. Consequently, the body's internal temperature becomes trapped, which can lead to a deficiency of iron and vision problems, including swollen eyelids. The balance of our five elements is disrupted, prompting various remedies to open these pores.

Signs of the Evil Eye

According to ancient texts, certain signs indicate that a child may be affected by the evil eye. These include irritability, frequent illnesses, vomiting, changes in eye color, and headaches. Additionally, unnecessary expenses, unexplained crying, spoiled milk, and any damage within the home can also signify the presence of the evil eye.

Remedies to Remove the Evil Eye

1. Fill a copper vessel with delicate flowers, sugar, or milk and water, then pass it over the child from head to toe eleven times. Dispose of the contents in a plant pot, avoiding basil. This will eliminate the evil eye.

2. If a child is affected by a sweet gaze, take sugar in both hands and pass it over the child from head to toe. Mix the sugar with water and quickly pour it down the bathroom drain, or mix sugar in milk, pass it over the child seven times, and then pour it at the base of a peepal tree without looking back.

3. Use salt, mustard seeds, garlic, onion peels, and dried red chilies to pass over the child seven or twenty-one times. Dispose of these items in a fire or on a gas stove to dispel the evil eye.

4. Visit a Hanuman temple on Saturday, take some vermilion from the deity, and apply it to the child's forehead to alleviate the effects of the evil eye.

5. For breastfeeding infants, take three small tamarind branches, burn one end, and rotate it seven times over the child before extinguishing it with water.

6. If a child loses interest in food, place some food items on a leaf, sprinkle rose water, and leave it on the ground to remove the evil eye.

7. Use a small clay pot filled with red chilies, carom seeds, and yellow mustard, light it, and use the smoke to cleanse the child of the evil eye.

8. If a child is fussy about drinking milk, pour milk over them seven times and then feed it to a black dog to remove the evil eye.

9. On Saturday, use a broom or the left shoe of the child to sweep over them seven times in reverse order, then sweep the entrance three times before entering.

10. Pass alum and yellow mustard over the child seven times and then dispose of it in the stove. Repeat this in the morning, afternoon, and evening to help a child recover from ailments caused by the evil eye.
