Chinese President Xi Jinping welcomed US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and his delegation in Beijing.
Xi emphasized that the future of humanity depends on China-US relations, calling it the most important bilateral relationship globally.
Xi reiterated China's commitment to peaceful coexistence with the United States and a desire to improve relations.
Schumer led a bipartisan congressional delegation to Asia with the aim of seeking economic reciprocity and a level playing field for US businesses in China.
The delegation included Republicans Mike Crapo, Bill Cassidy, John Kennedy, and Democrats Maggie Hassan, and Jon Ossoff.
Schumer's visit followed visits by top US officials, including Antony Blinken, Janet Yellen, Gina Raimondo, and John Kerry, to China earlier in the year.
Schumer called for a level playing field for American businesses, accountability for China-based companies supplying harmful chemicals, support for Ukraine, and advancing human rights.
