New Delhi, June 9: Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been removed from India's squads for the upcoming T20I matches against Ireland and England. Prasidh Krishna has been named as his replacement.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Siraj has been advised to take a rest following consultations between the medical team and management. This decision aims to ensure that the right-arm pacer has sufficient recovery time ahead of a demanding international season.
According to the BCCI's statement, "Following discussions between the BCCI Medical Team and the Team Management, Siraj has been advised a period of rest as part of his workload management programme. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure adequate recovery ahead of a long international season."
Prasidh Krishna showcased impressive performance in the recently concluded IPL 2026, where he claimed 16 wickets in 12 matches with an economy rate of 10.44. He has participated in five T20Is, taking eight wickets at an economy rate of 11. His last appearance for India in this format was in November 2023 against Australia in Guwahati.
Additionally, Prasidh is included in India's squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, starting June 13.
Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as the new captain, replacing Suryakumar Yadav, with Tilak Varma serving as vice-captain. The squad also features 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who could become the youngest player to represent India in international cricket.
India's schedule includes two T20Is in Belfast on June 26 and 28, followed by five matches in England from July 1 to 11. They will also participate in the Men's T20 event at the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, in September.
