End of IPL 2026 Campaign

After a disappointing conclusion to their IPL 2026 season, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are contemplating a shift in leadership. Tom Moody, the Director of Cricket, indicated that the team may need to undergo a 'reset'.

LSG's performance this season was lackluster, finishing with only four victories against ten defeats, placing them among the bottom two in the league standings. At their home ground, they managed to secure just two wins out of seven matches.

Pant's Struggles as Captain

Rishabh Pant, who debuted with LSG in 2025 under significant pressure due to a hefty price tag of Rs 27 crores, has struggled to lead the team effectively. Last season, LSG won six matches and lost eight, ending in seventh place.

This year, Pant's batting performance has not met expectations, accumulating 581 runs over 28 matches and 26 innings, averaging 26.40 with a strike rate of 135.74, including one century and two fifties.

Performance Analysis

In comparison to his 2025 season, where he scored 269 runs, Pant's 2026 season saw a slight improvement with 312 runs in 13 innings, averaging 28.36 and a strike rate exceeding 138.05, but only one fifty and a top score of 68*.

Future Leadership Considerations

During a post-match press conference, Moody acknowledged the challenges Pant has faced in his captaincy role, stating that the results reflect these difficulties. He emphasized the need for reflection and consideration regarding the team's leadership moving forward.

Moody noted that the team has not met their own expectations and that serious discussions about the franchise's leadership will take place. He stressed that accountability lies with the entire team, not just one individual, and that they must address the issues collectively.

Match Recap and Playoff Implications

In their final match, Punjab Kings (PBKS) chose to bowl first, with notable performances from Josh Inglis (72 runs off 44 balls), Ayush Badoni (43 runs off 18 balls), and Abdul Samad (37* runs off 20 balls), leading to a total of 196/6 in 20 overs. Yuzvendra Chahal (2/25) and Marco Jansen (2/33) were the standout bowlers for PBKS.

In response, Iyer (101* runs off 51 balls) and Prabhsimran Singh (69 runs off 39 balls) guided PBKS to victory, ending their six-match losing streak with seven wickets remaining and two overs to spare.

Currently, PBKS holds the fourth position in the points table with seven wins and six losses, totaling 15 points. Their playoff fate hinges on the outcome of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) versus Mumbai Indians (MI) match. If RR wins, PBKS will be eliminated; if RR loses, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) must defeat Delhi Capitals (DC) by a significant margin to surpass PBKS in net run rate.
