Delhi Capitals Triumph in High-Scoring IPL Encounter
In a thrilling IPL 2026 match at Eden Gardens on Sunday, the Delhi Capitals (DC) emerged victorious against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), winning by 40 runs. The disciplined bowling from DC, coupled with crucial breakthroughs, allowed them to defend a challenging target of 204 runs, concluding their league-stage campaign on a high note.
Led by Axar Patel, DC's performance was marked by strategic bowling that stifled KKR's chase. KKR started strong, with openers Finn Allen and Ajinkya Rahane putting together a solid 43-run partnership in just 4.2 overs. However, Allen fell to Lungi Ngidi after scoring 20 runs off 13 balls, which included three fours and a six.
Despite the early loss, Rahane maintained the momentum, scoring aggressively alongside Manish Pandey. KKR managed to accumulate 55 runs during the power play, losing only one wicket. Rahane notably attacked DC's Axar Patel, scoring 21 runs in one over, including three sixes.
Pandey contributed 25 runs off 16 balls before Ngidi dismissed him, while Cameron Green fell shortly after for just 2 runs. KKR ended the power play at 98 runs for three wickets, with Rahane reaching his half-century in just 31 balls.
However, the match turned dramatically in the 14th over when Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets in consecutive deliveries, dismissing Rahane for 63 runs and Rinku Singh for a golden duck, leaving KKR struggling at 129/5.
DC's captain Axar Patel added to KKR's woes by bowling out wicketkeeper Tejasvi Dahiya for just one run, further deepening KKR's collapse. By the end of the 16th over, KKR was at 142/6, with Rovam Powell and Anukul Roy attempting to stabilize the innings.
The situation worsened for KKR when Powell was run out for 29 runs due to a sharp throw from DC's Ashutosh Sharma. Mitchell Starc then dismissed Anukul for 9 runs, and in the same over, he took down Kartik Tyagi, leaving KKR at 154/8.
Lungi Ngidi wrapped up the innings by claiming the final wicket of Varun Chakaravarthy, as KKR was bowled out for 163 runs in 18.4 overs, marking a successful end to DC's campaign.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals set a formidable target of 204 runs, with KL Rahul being the standout performer, scoring 60 runs off 30 balls. DC's innings featured contributions from David Miller and Ashutosh Sharma, who helped secure a total of 203/5.
DC's openers started strong, adding 40 runs before Abishek Porel was dismissed. Sahil Parakh contributed 24 runs, but it was Rahul's explosive batting that anchored the innings. Axar Patel also played a crucial role, scoring 39 runs off 25 balls.
In the death overs, Ashutosh Sharma and Miller added valuable runs, with Miller hitting two sixes in the final over. KKR's bowling attack struggled, with Kartik Tyagi conceding 55 runs without taking a wicket, while Sunil Narine, Chakaravarthy, and Roy each claimed one wicket.
