Delhi Capitals Secure Win in Final Match

In Kolkata, the Delhi Capitals wrapped up their IPL 2026 season with a decisive 40-run victory against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Sunday. Kuldeep Yadav played a pivotal role in this triumph, emerging as the leading wicket-taker for his team.

Kuldeep was honored as the Player of the Match, boasting impressive bowling figures of 3 wickets for 29 runs. During the post-match interview, he shared insights about his strategy and the wickets he claimed.

He stated, "I had a clear plan in mind. I noticed early that the pitch was somewhat slow, so I aimed to vary my pace and mix in some scrambled seam deliveries to outsmart the batsmen. The wicket of Rinku was a prime example; I slowed it down in the air, and he played it straight, which led to his dismissal."

Kuldeep successfully dismissed KKR's captain Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 63 runs off 39 balls, along with all-rounder Cameron Green and Rinku Singh, who fell for a golden duck.

Reflecting on his season, Kuldeep expressed mixed feelings, saying, "I’m quite pleased with how things turned out today. However, I was initially disappointed because our team didn’t finish in the top four. Personally, I felt I underperformed this season, as I had higher expectations for myself. After the last match, I returned home and worked with my coach to address areas for improvement. I realized that in white-ball cricket, it’s often the small details that can be overlooked. It was rewarding to come back and bowl effectively after that."

Discussing his bowling technique, Kuldeep noted, "I felt I was bowling a bit too open-chested and not utilizing my full body. This can lead to pushing the ball, making it easier for T20 batsmen to hit it down the ground. By engaging my body more and spinning the ball harder, I noticed significant improvements in my performance."

At one point, Kuldeep was on the verge of a hat-trick, but a dropped catch by wicketkeeper Abishek Porel prevented him from achieving this milestone.

On the near-hat-trick, he remarked, "Such things happen in cricket, and I’m genuinely satisfied with my performance. Whether or not I get a hat-trick is secondary; I’m pleased with how I bowled today."

With this victory, DC finished sixth in the standings, marking their seventh win of the season after successfully defending a total of 204 runs in their final league match. KKR ended just below them in seventh place with six wins.

Batting first, Delhi Capitals scored 203 runs for 5 wickets, with KL Rahul contributing a brisk 60 runs, followed by 39 from captain Axar Patel, and a late surge from David Miller and Ashutosh Sharma. KKR's bowlers struggled to contain runs, especially in the death overs.

In response, KKR started steadily with Finn Allen and Ajinkya Rahane adding 43 runs, while Rahane and Manish Pandey maintained the momentum during the power play. However, the match shifted dramatically after Kuldeep's double strike, which dismissed Rahane and Rinku Singh, followed by Axar Patel taking out Tejasvi Dahiya.

Mitchell Starc and Lungi Ngidi then wrapped up the lower order, leading to KKR's dismissal for 163 runs in 18.4 overs, securing a comprehensive victory for DC and concluding their campaign on a high note.

On returning to fundamental T20 strategies, Kuldeep emphasized, "Absolutely. My coach was very direct with me, saying, 'You need to spin the ball to deceive the batsman.' I understand that batsmen are aggressive, but spinning the ball always gives you a chance to take wickets. I also realized I wasn’t using my full body in recent games. While I bowled well at times, any misstep in my run-up or rhythm ultimately impacts my performance."
