India's Inaugural Junior Pickleball Championship Set to Showcase Young Talent
Introduction to the Championship
The Indian Pickleball Association (IPA) is gearing up for the inaugural Junior Pickleball Championship, a PWR 400 event scheduled to take place at the Dinkers Academy in Ahmedabad from June 12 to 14. This exciting tournament will attract over 180 young athletes from various parts of the country, featuring India's finest sub-junior and junior players competing in the Under-14 and Under-18 divisions. The stakes are high, as this championship serves as a crucial selection trial for the upcoming Pickleball World Cup.
Significance of the Championship
The IPA has officially recognized this tournament as the selection trials for the third edition of the Pickleball World Cup, which will be held in Da Nang, Vietnam, from August 30 to September 6. The performances in Ahmedabad will be pivotal in forming India's U14 and U18 teams. Last year, India made a remarkable debut at the World Cup, securing 25 medals, including eight golds, and achieving the best finish by an Asian nation, placing seventh.
Talent and Rivalries
The Sub-Junior and Junior categories are known for their intense competition and healthy rivalries. Under the IPA's guidance, India has cultivated a robust talent pool in these age groups. The U18 category will feature standout player Arjun Singh, who has previously medaled at both the Pickleball World Championships and the US Open. Meanwhile, the U14 category promises exciting matchups with players like Panth Thakkar and Veer Shah, who recently showcased their skills at the Sportify Dink Master in Anand, Gujarat.
In the girls' division, Anushka Chhabria, a three-time medalist at last year's World Cup, is expected to be a key player. Additionally, the doubles competition will spotlight Dev Shah and Aariv Raj Khanna, who are also anticipated to deliver thrilling performances.
High Performance Training Camp
To enhance athlete development, the IPA has organized a High Performance Training Camp prior to the championship, running from June 9 to 11. This three-day program will be led by India's national coach, Dhiren Patel, aiming to equip emerging talents with advanced training and competitive readiness before they compete in Ahmedabad. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the junior player development pathway in Indian pickleball, integrating elite coaching, structured competition, and international exposure.
