Gokulam Kerala FC achieved a convincing 3-0 victory over Mohammedan Sporting Club during their final Group C match of the AIFF Super Cup at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim on Wednesday, according to the All India Football Federation (AIFF). The match was highlighted by Albert Torras' opening goal in the 28th minute, followed by Samuel Lyndoh extending the lead early in the second half. In the closing minutes, substitute Juan Carlos Rico added a third goal, securing the win and elevating Gokulam to third place in the group standings, concluding both teams' campaigns.
First Half Highlights and Initial Goal
The match kicked off with Gokulam's Spanish midfielder Alfred Planas testing Mohammedan's goalkeeper Subhajit Bhattacharjee with a curling free-kick in the fourth minute, which was expertly saved. Mohammedan responded with counterattacks, including a shot from Maharabam Maxion that went wide and a powerful free-kick from Ashley Koli that struck the crossbar.
The first goal came in the 28th minute when Shighil's shot deflected off Yash Chickro, setting up Torras for a stunning volley that put Gokulam ahead. This goal boosted the team's confidence, leading to a series of aggressive attacks while Mohammedan struggled to penetrate Gokulam's robust defense. Following relentless pressure, Akshunna Tyagi made a significant play in the 56th minute, delivering a low cross that Samuel Lyngdoh converted with a simple tap-in, doubling the lead.
In the 86th minute, Gokulam sealed their victory with a third goal. Planas' initial shot was saved by Bhattacharjee, but Juan Carlos Rico capitalized on the rebound, scoring from close range.
