Lucknow Super Giants' Disappointing IPL 2026 Season: Key Player Changes Ahead
Lucknow Super Giants' Struggles in IPL 2026
The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), under the leadership of Rishabh Pant, faced yet another disappointing season, failing to progress beyond the initial rounds of IPL 2026. With only 4 victories out of 14 matches, they ended up at the bottom of the table, accumulating just 8 points. In light of their early exit, former cricketer Wasim Jaffer discussed potential player changes for the upcoming IPL 2027 mini-auction on his YouTube channel. He suggested releasing both Rishabh Pant and Nicholas Pooran, only to re-sign them at a lower price.
During the IPL 2025 mega-auction, LSG acquired Rishabh Pant for a staggering Rs 27 crore and retained Pooran for Rs 21 crore. Jaffer mentioned, “I would release Pant and then look to buy him back at a cheaper rate. The same goes for Nicholas Pooran.” He also highlighted the importance of retaining Josh Inglis and praised Prince Yadav for his performance, suggesting he deserves to stay despite the team's overall struggles.
Rishabh Pant's Performance Under Scrutiny
Rishabh Pant's Challenges at LSG
Expectations were high for Rishabh Pant when he was signed for a record Rs 27 crore. However, his captaincy has come under fire as LSG failed to make it past the league stage in IPL 2025. In the 2026 season, Pant managed to score 312 runs across 13 innings, but the team's performance was lackluster, finishing last. Since IPL 2023, LSG has not advanced to the second round, leading to speculation about Pant's future with the team following a series of underwhelming performances.
