Unusual Run Out Incident in Tri-Series Match

During the opening match of the List-A Tri-series between India-A and Sri Lanka-A at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium on June 9, an unusual run out occurred involving Priyansh Arya and Ruturaj Gaikwad. The incident unfolded after a mix-up left both players at the same end of the pitch. Following the early dismissals of openers Prabsimran Singh and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Arya and Ruturaj came in to bat at the third and fourth positions, respectively. They formed a partnership of 43 runs for the third wicket before the bizarre run out took place.

On the final delivery of the 13th over bowled by Ravindu Fernando, Ruturaj nudged the ball towards the off-side and attempted a double. While he successfully returned to the crease, Arya hesitated and decided against running, resulting in both players ending up at the same end. Niroshan Dickwella, the wicketkeeper, quickly received the ball from Avishka Fernando in the deep and threw it to Ravindu at the bowler's end, leading to Arya's dismissal.

Replays indicated that Priyansh's entry to the crease was hindered by Dickwella's positioning, which contributed to the confusion. Despite the unusual circumstances, it could be argued that Arya was at fault for the mix-up, as Ruturaj had already completed two runs before the ball reached the wicketkeeper.

In terms of performance, Ruturaj Gaikwad achieved his 21st List A century, showcasing his excellent form in the 50-over format. India-A managed to set a formidable total of 287 runs on the scoreboard.
