Bangladesh Secures Historic ODI Win Over Australia with DLS Method
Bangladesh Triumphs in First ODI Against Australia
Dhaka [Bangladesh], June 9: Bangladesh achieved a remarkable victory over Australia by 86 runs using the DLS method in the opening ODI of their three-match series. This win marks Bangladesh's first ODI triumph against Australia since 2005.
All-rounder Mosaddek Hossain led the charge with an impressive unbeaten 86 runs off 70 balls, supported by Tanzid Hasan's quickfire 54 from 44 balls and Najmul Hossain Shanto's steady 67 off 86 balls, propelling the team to a total of 284/8 in their 50 overs. In response, Australia managed to score 191 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 42.2 overs before rain interrupted the match.
Australia's stand-in captain Josh Inglis chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Despite an early setback with Saif Hassan dismissed for just 5 runs, Bangladesh recovered well, with Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Shanto forming a solid 96-run partnership for the second wicket. Tanzid's aggressive batting and Shanto's steady accumulation of runs set a strong foundation.
Australia attempted to regain control through part-time spinner Matt Renshaw, who took two quick wickets, including that of Shanto. However, Mosaddek Hossain's return to the international scene was nothing short of spectacular, as he struck seven fours and three sixes in his innings.
Late contributions from Towhid Hridoy (31) and Taskin Ahmed (20) helped Bangladesh finish strongly. Nathan Ellis was the standout bowler for Australia, taking 3 wickets for 38 runs, while debutant Liam Scott and Renshaw each claimed two wickets.
In their chase of 285, Australia struggled against the pace and variations of Nahid Rana, who took 4 wickets for 41 runs. Cameron Green provided some resistance with an unbeaten 52 runs, while Alex Carey added 47 runs. However, the required run rate escalated, and Mosaddek's economical bowling further tightened Bangladesh's grip on the match.
Mustafizur Rahman concluded the innings by taking 2 wickets for 24 runs, leading to Australia being bowled out for 191 runs. The match was ultimately called off due to rain, with Australia falling short by 86 runs under the DLS method.
This victory gives Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the ODI series, with the next match scheduled for June 11 at the same venue.
