Historic Achievement for Bruno Fernandes

Brighton [UK], May 24: In a remarkable feat, Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes has shattered the Premier League record for the most assists in a single season, achieving his 21st assist during the final league match against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday in the 2025/26 season.

This milestone was reached when Fernandes assisted Patrick Dorgu's goal in the 33rd minute, surpassing the previous record of 20 assists, which was jointly held by Thierry Henry from the 2002/03 season and Kevin De Bruyne from 2019/20.

Interestingly, Fernandes' first assist of the season came on October 19, when he set up Harry Maguire's decisive goal in a 2-1 win over Liverpool.

Additionally, the Manchester United captain matched another significant record, as his corner assist brought his total set-piece assists to 11 for the season, equaling the mark set by Steven Gerrard in the 2013/14 season.

In total, Fernandes has accumulated 104 assists across all competitions for Manchester United, placing him fourth on the club's all-time assist leaderboard, behind legends Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, and David Beckham.

In terms of Premier League history, he has achieved 72 assists, ranking him 17th overall, with the opportunity to enter the top 10, where the current threshold is 90 assists held by James Milner, who is still active with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Earlier this season, Fernandes was honored as the Premier League Player of the Season 2025-26, marking his first time receiving this accolade after being a standout player throughout the campaign.

The Portuguese midfielder has had an outstanding season, playing a pivotal role in Manchester United's resurgence and securing a UEFA Champions League spot. He has netted eight goals and provided 21 assists in 38 Premier League matches, contributing directly to 29 goals as United finished third in the league.

At 31 years old, Fernandes has already made his mark at Old Trafford, matching David Beckham's long-standing record for the most assists by a Manchester United player in a single Premier League season, which was set at 15 during the 1999-2000 season.

This season, Fernandes has created 132 chances, the highest in the league, surpassing Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai by 43 chances. He is the first Manchester United player to win the Premier League Player of the Season award since Nemanja Vidic in the 2010/11 season.
