Trophy Handover Issue to be Discussed

New Delhi: The ongoing discussions at the ICC quarterly meetings in Dubai may include the unresolved issue regarding the handover of the Asia Cup trophy for 2025, as per sources close to the situation. The BCCI is expected to bring this matter to the forefront during the board meeting scheduled for Friday.

Despite a formal communication sent to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), there has been no progress regarding the trophy handover, leaving the situation in a state of uncertainty.

On November 1, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia mentioned that the delay in the trophy handover would be a point of contention at the ICC meetings, noting that a letter addressing this issue was dispatched to the ACC ten days prior.

This controversy follows India's recent victory over Pakistan, where they triumphed by five wickets at the Dubai International Stadium, marking their ninth Asia Cup title.

However, the post-match festivities took an unexpected turn when the Indian team declined to accept the trophy and medals from Mohsin Naqvi, the ACC Chairman, who also holds positions as Pakistan's Interior Minister and Chairman of the PCB.

This refusal, attributed to ongoing tensions between the two nations, resulted in a chaotic atmosphere and an unusual celebration devoid of the trophy. Despite the BCCI's efforts to address the situation, it remains unresolved.

Additionally, discussions regarding the governance of cricket in the USA are also anticipated during the board meeting. Earlier this year, the ICC suspended USA Cricket's membership due to governance issues, although they are still eligible to participate in the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup, which will take place in India and Sri Lanka.
