Historic Achievement for Indian Cooperatives

New Delhi, Nov 5: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, has praised the remarkable achievements of Amul and the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), which have secured the top two positions in the global cooperative rankings.

This milestone marks a significant moment for India's cooperative sector, highlighting the success of these two prominent organizations.

In a message shared on the X social media platform, HM Shah expressed, “A proud moment for Bharat! Heartfelt congratulations to Amul and IFFCO for achieving the first two ranks among the world's top ten cooperatives.”

He further emphasized, “This recognition reflects the unwavering commitment of countless women involved with Amul and the farmers supporting IFFCO. It showcases the immense potential of cooperatives, which are evolving into a global model of empowerment and self-sufficiency under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

India's dairy industry plays a crucial role in supporting rural livelihoods and exemplifies inclusive growth. As the world's leading milk producer, India has successfully integrated farmer-led cooperatives, women's involvement, and scientific advancements to drive significant progress.

While maintaining existing achievements, the sector continues to receive support through subsidies, credit options, and research and development in fodder and animal health, ensuring that India's dairy industry remains robust, inclusive, and prepared to meet both domestic and international demands.

Additionally, the National Co-operative Exports Limited (NCEL), established by the government in 2023, has reached an impressive milestone by exporting agricultural products worth Rs 5,403.01 crore, including rice, fresh red onions, sugar, baby food, processed foods, spices, and tea.

NCEL has been supported by five major cooperatives: Indian Farmers Fertiliser Co-operative Limited (IFFCO), Krishak Bharati Co-operative Limited (KRIBHCO), National Agricultural Co-operative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED), Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF–Amul), and the National Co-operative Development Corporation (NCDC).
